Haida Gwaii: Islands of the People

There are places in this world that stop you in your tracks, not because they’re dramatic or loud, but because they feel ancient and alive in a way you can’t quite explain. Haida Gwaii is one of those places. Adrift in the Pacific off the northern coast of British Columbia, this archipelago of more than 150 islands has been home to the Haida Nation for over 13,000 years. The forests here are older than memory. The coastlines are raw and wild. And the culture that has grown from this land is one of the most extraordinary on earth.
Over seven days, we move through the islands the way they deserve to be explored: slowly, curiously, with room to breathe. We begin on Moresby Island, where a two-day zodiac expedition into Gwaii Haanas takes us deep into protected waters to visit ancient Haida village sites, meet the Haida Watchmen who guard them, and witness humpback whales, bald eagles, and old-growth rainforest from the water. Then we cross to Graham Island, the cultural and community heart of Haida Gwaii, where we spend our remaining days moving north through small towns, forest trails, and rugged coastline, ending at Ocean House on the shores of Naikoon Provincial Park, about as close to the edge of the world as you can get.
This is a trip for people who want to truly understand a place, not just photograph it. You’ll share meals with locals, hear stories from Haida guides, ride e-bikes down a wind-swept beach at low tide, and fall asleep to the sound of the Pacific. You’ll come home with something harder to define than a highlight reel – a genuine sense of connection to one of Canada’s most remarkable wild places.

FAQs
How much is my deposit and is it refundable?
The deposit for this tour is $500 CAD (or equivalent) per person. Your deposit is refundable for 24 hours after booking. After that, there is a $100 per person transfer fee that applies to changes you want to make to your tour (ie. to change the tour date or to choose a different tour). Transfers are possible until the final payment deadline, unless otherwise specified. Of course, if Radventures cannot confirm your tour by the final payment deadline, your deposit can be refunded or transferred to another tour free of charge.
Do I need travel insurance?
Yes! We would definitely recommend an “All Inclusive” policy that covers you for both medical expenses as well as any trip cancellation or interruptions. You can purchase this from our booking platform, “WeTravel”, or contact us for more information.
Can I add pre or post dates or just join for a portion of a tour?
At Radventures we pride ourselves on our flexibility. If you wan’t to enjoy more of this beautiful country before and after your time with us, we’d be more than happy to make any arrangements for you. As for being partly involved in a tour, whilst we can’t make any guarantees about whats possible or not, it’s best that you get in touch with us when you’re considering booking a tour or trip with us and let us know how you want things to work so we can see if we can make it work.
How far in advance do I need to book?
This is a tricky one. We don’t know when other people will book, so it’s hard to know if and when the tour will fill up. Our advice is to book as soon as you’ve made the decision to travel, that way you won’t be disappointed. Most of our service providers have a cutoff date of 2-3 months before departure that we need to advise them to release any excess space, and while we may be able to get these services back after the cutoff date it’s definitely safer to book early while we can still guarantee enough space for you.
What if I'm travelling solo?
You’re in great company! We have two options for solo travellers on our tours – you can join our share program to be matched with another rad solo traveller (of the same sex), or you can purchase the single supplement to have your own private room.
