Journey deep into Þórsmörk, a valley carved by glaciers and framed by volcanic peaks. Board a rugged 4×4 and traverse wild rivers, bouncing over highland tracks that lead to some of Iceland’s most remote landscapes. You step into Stakkholtsgjá Canyon, a dramatic gorge where towering rock walls and moss-covered cliffs conceal a hidden waterfall. Walking through this natural wonder feels like stepping into another world.
From there we embark on a scenic hike from Básar, winding through birch forests and across glacial rivers before ascending Réttarfell Mountain. As you gain elevation, the panoramic views become more dramatic, revealing an untamed wilderness of volcanic peaks, black sand plains, and ice-capped summits stretching to the horizon. Few places in the world feel as wild and untouched as Þórsmörk.

We begin the day at Skógafoss, one of Iceland’s most breathtaking waterfalls. Standing at its base, you feel the misty spray on our faces as the water thunders down from 60 meters above. Those of us up for the challenge can climb the 527 steps to the top, where panoramic views of the coastline stretch endlessly before us.
Next, we seek out Kvernufoss, a hidden gem tucked within a lush green canyon. Unlike most waterfalls, you can walk behind this one, immersing ourselves in the refreshing coolness of the falling water. From here, we head to Dyrhólaey, where puffins nest among towering sea cliffs, and then on to Reynisfjara, Iceland’s most famous black sand beach. As the powerful Atlantic waves crash against the jagged basalt columns, you marvel at nature’s raw force.
Before the day ends, we explore Fjaðrárgljúfur, a stunning canyon carved by glacial meltwater thousands of years ago. The winding river below and the towering rock formations make this one of the most photogenic spots in Iceland.

Today we embark on an unforgettable glacier trek on Falljökull, an outlet glacier of Vatnajökull. Strapping on crampons, you follow our guide across a landscape of deep crevasses and brilliant blue ice formations. As you climb higher, you gain a profound appreciation for the sheer scale and power of these ancient ice flows.
Hiking: 2-3 hours at a relaxed pace
The adventure continues on the water as you kayak through Heinabergslón, a secluded glacial lagoon where massive icebergs drift silently. You paddle between these floating sculptures, taking in the surreal beauty of the landscape from an entirely new perspective. With the sun glinting off the ice, the scene feels almost dreamlike.

Our morning begins with a spectacular hike to Múlagljúfur Canyon, a hidden paradise near Vatnajökull National Park. As you follow the narrow trail, you’re surrounded by lush, moss-covered cliffs, and cascading waterfalls that tumble into the canyon below. When you reach the viewpoint, you’re rewarded with sweeping vistas of glaciers and coastline stretching to the horizon.
In the afternoon, we set out for a one-of-a-kind wildlife experience at Ingólfshöfði, a remote promontory rich in history and birdlife. A tractor-drawn hay cart takes us across vast black sand floodplains before we hike up to the cliffs where hundreds of puffins nest during the summer months. Watching these charming seabirds waddle along the grass and dive into the ocean is a truly magical sight.

Today, we leave the coast behind and venture deep into Iceland’s remote Highlands. Our rugged 4×4 journey takes us through Fjallabak Nature Reserve, an area of surreal beauty where multicolored rhyolite mountains meet vast black deserts and steaming geothermal vents.
We explore Eldgjá, the world’s largest volcanic canyon, where we hike to Ófærufoss, a stunning two-tiered waterfall that tumbles into the deep rift. Afterward, we continue to Landmannalaugar, often called the “hiking capital of the Highlands.” Our hike winds through rolling hills, past steaming hot springs, and across a striking obsidian lava field, ending at a natural geothermal pool where you can soak in the warm waters surrounded by an untamed landscape.

Hiking: 4 km
Elevation gain: 170 m
A short drive brings us to Gjáin, a hidden oasis where crystal-clear streams wind through mossy cliffs and miniature waterfalls create an enchanted setting. The contrast between this lush valley and the surrounding volcanic terrain is striking.
In the afternoon we return to Reykjavík with enough time to grab any final souvenirs (those Icelandic wool sweaters look awfully cozy!) or to explore new places in Reykjavik that you learned about along the way.

Radventures lives for those who want to escape the ordinary. Those who want to steer clear of the tourist traps and queues of cashed up pensioners. Those who are nomadic by nature and desire deep, authentic and local connections to make their trip as much about the journey as the destination. If that sounds like you, then you’re just like us, and between our relentless efforts to blow your expectations out of the water and our super knowledgable team, we’re your travel experts!
This tour involves plenty of easy to moderate hikes, e-biking, kayaking, and bumpy 4×4 driving. More details can be found in the day-by-day itinerary.
Different tours/trips have varying physical demands, but most tours are designed to be enjoyed by anyone who is reasonably fit. When selecting your tour please make sure you have read through the itinerary and itinerary carefully to assess your ability and to cope with our style of travel. Some trips visit remote areas with limited or non-existent medical facilities so you must be in good health. Factors such as altitude, cold temperatures, delays, unfamiliar food and different customs and cultures can also add to the physical toll. Keep in mind you will sometimes need to carry your own bags. Please note that if, in an extremely unlikely case, in the opinion of our guide, any guest is unable to complete the itinerary without undue risk to themselves and/or the rest of the group, Radventures reserves the right to exclude them from all or part of a trip without refund. You should consult your doctor for up-to-date medical travel information or for any necessary vaccinations before departure. We recommend that you carry a first aid kit as well as any personal medical requirements (including a spare pair of glasses) as they may not easily be obtained at the locations on this trip. For legal reasons our guides are prohibited from administering any type of drugs including headache tablets and antibiotics. Please ensure that you are adequately prepared.
Yes! We would definitely recommend an “All Inclusive” policy that covers you for both medical expenses as well as any trip cancellation or interruptions. You can purchase this from our booking platform, “WeTravel”, or contact us for more information.
At Radventures we pride ourselves on our flexibility. If you wan’t to enjoy more of this beautiful country before and after your time with us, we’d be more than happy to make any arrangements for you. As for being partly involved in a tour, whilst we can’t make any guarantees about whats possible or not, it’s best that you get in touch with us when you’re considering booking a tour or trip with us and let us know how you want things to work so we can see if we can make it work.
This is a tricky one. We don’t know when other people will book, so it’s hard to know if and when the tour will fill up. Our advice is to book as soon as you’ve made the decision to travel, that way you won’t be disappointed. Most of our service providers have a cutoff date of 2-3 months before departure that we need to advise them to release any excess space, and while we may be able to get these services back after the cutoff date it’s definitely safer to book early while we can still guarantee enough space for you.
You’re in great company! We have two options for solo travellers on our tours – you can join our share program to be matched with another rad solo traveller (of the same sex), or you can purchase the single supplement to have your own private room.
