Itinerary

You’re met at the airport and head west as the plains rise into foothills and peaks. Depending on arrival time, we can add an easy “first look” stop for a short walk and a viewpoint that sets the tone. If your group is interested in Western heritage, this is also a natural place to include an optional foothills ranch visit or horseback ride before settling into Banff for the evening.

Overnight: Banff

Today is about the Banff you pictured, but experienced in a way that feels calm. Your guide builds the route around traffic patterns and light, weaving together classic viewpoints and short scenic walks when they’re at their best. Late afternoon is reserved for a wildlife corridor drive timed for peak animal activity, when elk, bighorn sheep, and bears (seasonal) are more likely to be moving. If you want an elevated touch without going “luxury,” we can include a private picnic setup in a quieter scenic location.

Overnight: Banff

An early start pays off with sunrise at Moraine Lake, timed for the quietest, most atmospheric window. From there, the day flexes around your style: a gentle lakeshore wander, a classic viewpoint walk, canoe time, or a longer hike if your group wants more. In peak summer, we can also route around wildflower bloom; in September, this becomes a prime day to chase golden larch colour depending on conditions and trail access.

Overnight: Banff

Note: Personal vehicles are not allowed to visit Moraine Lake, therefore, we must use one of our sprinter vans to be permitted entry.

Today blends classic Rockies scenery with a dose of adventure. Begin in Yoho National Park, where short scenic walks lead to dramatic waterfalls and emerald-coloured lakes framed by towering peaks. The pace stays relaxed in the morning – high-reward viewpoints without long mileage.

In the afternoon, for those who want to add energy to the itinerary, head to the Kicking Horse River for a guided rafting experience. This section of the river offers a range of options depending on comfort level: from scenic float-style stretches to more exciting whitewater sections, making it adaptable for different groups. It’s an ideal way to experience the Rockies from a completely different perspective, down at water level with canyon walls rising around you.

For travellers who prefer to stay dry, the afternoon can remain scenic, with additional viewpoints, a relaxed lakeside stop, or time back at the hotel.

Overnight: Banff

The Icefields Parkway is the scenic spine of the trip, but it’s paced in chapters. Frequent stops, short walks, and viewpoints chosen for conditions, not just fame. For travellers who want one unforgettable upgrade, this is the best window to add helicopter flightseeing over glaciers and icefields (weather dependent) or a glacier-focused experience where seasonal operations allow. Choose to take the glacier explorer tour at the Columbia Icefields centre to walk on the glacier, followed by the glass floor Skywalk back at the base – as if the views could get any better. The day ends in Jasper with time to settle in and breathe.

Overnight: Jasper

Jasper feels bigger and quieter – more wilderness than postcard crowds. You’ll explore valley viewpoints, lakes, and short walks designed around wildlife patterns and weather. If you want to keep it gentle, we keep it scenic; if you want a little more movement, we add a moderate hike option. A scenic lake cruise to Spirit Island is one of Jaspers most iconic highlights that can be enjoyed by everyone. After dinner, you can opt into a dark-sky stargazing experience (Jasper is ideal for this), which is one of the most memorable “only-on-a-custom-trip” additions.

Overnight: Jasper

Your final morning rises above it all with a ride on the Jasper SkyTram, ascending to sweeping alpine views over the Athabasca Valley. From the upper station, short boardwalk paths and ridgeline strolls offer panoramic perspectives without demanding effort — a fitting last look at the scale of the Canadian Rockies.

After descending, your journey concludes with onward travel arrangements tailored to your broader plans.

FAQs

Radventures lives for those who want to escape the ordinary. Those who want to steer clear of the tourist traps and queues of cashed up pensioners. Those who are nomadic by nature and desire deep, authentic and local connections to make their trip as much about the journey as the destination. If that sounds like you, then you’re just like us, and between our relentless efforts to blow your expectations out of the water and our super knowledgable team, we’re your travel experts!

Very. You can keep it sightseeing-focused with viewpoint stops, add more active days (hiking, via ferrata), build in special interests (wildlife, photography), or include seasonal experiences (larches in fall, snowshoeing in winter). We tailor the trip to your group, not the other way around.

We can book you a custom itinerary with as little as 2 weeks notice, but a lot depends on availability. In peak season (typically July – August & Christmas holidays) hotels are booked months in advance – late booking will be difficult (though not impossible), but our favourite places may be sold out. We also have a limited number of vehicles, especially for smaller group sizes.

We recommend booking as early as possible, at least 4 months in advance for the best availability and pricing. This time frame increases as your group size increases.

Visiting bear country is safe when you follow established guidelines and travel with an experienced guide. Our guides are trained in wildlife behaviour, park protocols, and safe group management. They choose trails with current bear reports in mind and make decisions that prioritize your safety and comfort at all times.

Your guide will lead the group in standard safety practices, including:

  • Staying together as a group

  • Making noise at appropriate intervals

  • Being alert in areas with limited visibility (dense forest, running water, corners)

  • Avoiding known feeding areas when necessary

  • Following all Parks Canada advisories

These simple habits significantly reduce wildlife encounters and help ensure a safe and enjoyable hike.

The Rockies are beautiful year-round. Most people visit in the summer due to the (usually) warm weather, but it comes with high prices and the biggest crowds. Avid skiiers love visiting in winter to experience our incredible snow conditions and the stunning snow covered peaks. Hikers love visiting in the fall when the larches start turning golden or summer when the wildflowers are in full bloom. Wildlife lovers often choose spring when all the animals emerge from a long winter with their new, charming babies.

So, in summary, there is no bad time to visit the Rockies!

This itinerary is a sample to show what’s possible. Your trip is fully customized – we’ll design the routing, pacing, and experiences around your interests, travel dates, and comfort preferences.

Your deposit is refundable for 24 hours after booking. After that, there is a $100 per person transfer fee that applies to changes you want to make to your tour (ie. to change the tour date or to choose a different tour). Transfers are possible until the final payment deadline, unless otherwise specified. Of course, if Radventures cannot confirm your tour by the final payment deadline, your deposit can be refunded or transferred to another tour free of charge.
